RE-BIKE-CYCLE

      Re-Bike-Cycle is Wood-to-Wonderful’s bicycle program where donated bikes are refurbished and put back into use. Re-Bike-Cycle works in the following way: A bike mechanic works with several neighborhood children who refurbish bikes for their own use or for special awards programs in Reading schools.

 

   

   

 

Wood-to-Wonderful’s Mountain Bike Club

    Re-Bike-Cycle has evolved into Wood-to-Wonderful’s junior mountain bike club—the Reading Pedal-ers—for Reading elementary, middle, and high school students. Since April 2011, four experienced mountain bike volunteers are taking children to various local trails to ride at least twice a week.  

       Wood-to-Wonderful provides the mountain bikes, helmets, and kits for the young cyclists and also has a truck with room for transporting nine bikes. Wood-to-Wonderful oversees all aspects of the bike club.

        The Reading Pedal-ers group includes an eleventh and an eighth grader who are experienced mountain bike riders and competitors. These two young men also refurbish bikes for neighbors and friends and maintain the bike club bicycles in Wood-to-Wonderful’s Re-Bike-Cycle shop. Plans include involving all Reading Pedal-ers in learning to maintain the bikes they use for riding with the club. This will take place during the winter months.

            Future plans for the Reading Pedal-ers include the formation of a junior mountain bike team which will compete in M.A.S.S. races during the 2012-13 season.


 

 

Wood-to-Wonderful’s Third Annual 'Santa Bike Giveaway' at Skyline Bicycle

Since 2007, teachers at 12th & Marion Elementary School, Wood-to-Wonderful’s neighborhood school, select a boy and a girl in each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classrooms to receive a bike at Christmas. Beginning in 2010, this event will be held at Wood-to-Wonderful.

Cycle Mania is Wood-to-Wonderful’s annual mountain bike race fundraiser for Re-Bike-Cycle. Please see “Events” section for photos and info.
